Dr. Derick Phan

Associate Orthodontist

Dr . H. Derick Phan grew up in San Jose, California and attended Leland High School where he was a star volleyball player and track and field athlete. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California Riverside where he continued to play volleyball and work as a dental assistant and high school volleyball coach. Thus, discovering his two passions and talents. He followed his dream and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. Dr. Phan was accepted to a prestigious graduate residency program at the Loma Linda VA Medical Center. He then went into private practice in the Salinas/Monterey Bay area as a family and cosmetic dentist, and then spent a year specializing in Pediatric dentistry. Dr. Phan earned his Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics from Jacksonville University Dental School of Orthodontics. He is a board-certified diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics as well as a member of the American Association of Orthodontists. He has been in practice for over 10 years now and was featured in Phoenix Magazine’s Top dentist for 2006 and 2007. Voted “Best Orthodontist” by But Tre Magazine 2007, and received the Comfort Dental Gold Award for Clinical Excellence in 2008. Dr. Phan used to own three very successful practices in Phoenix, Arizona but has now come back home to be closer to family, friends and one day start a family of his own here in the East Bay. Dr. Phan strives to stay on the forefront of the newest orthodontic techniques and technology by traveling all over the United States (and sometimes the world) for continuing education courses.

Dr Phan enjoys many outdoor activities and is an avid snowboarder. He has also been a high school girls’ volleyball coach for over 12 years and has coached in five different states taking is teams to the state and national level. He continues to coach to this very day in our community coaching girls from Livermore, Dublin, Tracy, Danville, and Alamo. He is also a volleyball player having competed at the high school, college, and professional club level. So chances are, in his spare time you might see him at your local high school or on the ski slopes.
